Eniun PC Lab is an interactive educational simulator for learning to build a PC. In this lab you will learn to prepare an ASUS PRIME B760-PLUS D4 by installing the processor, RAM, M.2 SSD and CPU cooler directly on the motherboard. It is the first lab in the recommended order: prepare the motherboard here and then continue with installing components in the case. You can do the labs in whichever order you prefer.
1. What you will learn
- Prepare the workstation with a grounded anti-static wrist strap.
- Install a processor in an LGA1700 socket with the correct orientation.
- Fit two DDR4 RAM modules in the recommended slots for dual channel.
- Insert an M.2 NVMe SSD and secure it with its screw.
- Fit the CPU cooler (which keeps the processor cool) and connect its fan to CPU_FAN.
2. Assembly steps
- Prepare the workstation. Put on the anti-static wrist strap and connect the clip to ground. Your body builds up static electricity. A discharge you don't even notice can damage a processor, memory or the motherboard.
- Install the processor. Open the socket, place the processor and close the socket. Why install the CPU first? With the motherboard out of the case and without the cooler or memory installed, the socket is easier to reach and more comfortable to work on.
- Install the RAM. Prepare the slots and install the modules. Why DIMM_A2 and DIMM_B2? They are the recommended slots for installing two modules on this board and running the memory in dual channel.
- Install the M.2 SSD. Insert the SSD, place the screw and secure the SSD. Why before the CPU cooler? The M.2 slot is close to the socket and, with the cooler fitted, it's hard to reach.
- Install the CPU cooler. Place the CPU cooler, secure the CPU cooler and connect the fan. Why install the cooler last? Once installed, the cooler takes up a lot of space on the board and can make nearby components and connectors harder to reach.
3. The motherboard manual
In a real build, the motherboard manual is the reference for installing and connecting components correctly. Each board may have different instructions.
This lab follows the instructions in the ASUS PRIME B760-PLUS D4 manual, but it is a simulation for educational purposes: some positions and measurements are approximate.
When you build a real computer, always check your motherboard manual.
4. Continue with the assembly
Next, you can continue with the lab on installing components in the case: install the prepared motherboard, the power supply and the graphics card, connect the cables and close the computer.
Installing components in the case
We recommend using Eniun PC Lab on a laptop or desktop computer. Assembly needs screen space; on phones and tablets, some actions may be difficult or may not work properly.
Your progress is saved in this browser. When you finish, you can review the assembly and check the technical information for each component.
